WHY HAVE SMOKE-FREE Residents living in multi-unit housing such as apartments, condominiums, and retirement buildings are healthier than just ten years ago. They are very aware of the dangers of secondhand smoke, and the destructive nature of burning tobacco products. Most non-smokers work and play in smoke-free buildings. They no longer accept the idea they must breath tobacco smoke as part of the culture, and the last place they want to breathe or smell it is in their homes. Home is our sanctuary. Home is where we go to get away from the problems of the world. Home should be our safe haven. When one person smokes either inside an apartment or outside on the patio or balcony the smoke travels into their neighbors homes.
